How Much Does Bookkeeping and Accounting Cost in 2026?
· 3 min read

The cost of accounting depends on document volume, VAT registration status, number of employees, and the mode of collaboration. Here are the realistic price ranges and hidden surcharge pitfalls.
Quick take
- Tax records (daňová evidence) for sole traders (OSVČ) start at around 990 CZK per month for up to 20 documents.
- Double-entry bookkeeping for an s.r.o. starts at around 2,490 CZK per month for up to 40 documents.
- Payroll processing for one employee typically costs 190–290 CZK depending on the contract type.
- Digital document handover is typically 10–20% cheaper than paper-based processing.
What actually drives the price
The decisive factor is the number of processed documents, not your turnover. Furthermore, the price changes depending on whether you are registered for VAT, how many employees you have, whether you maintain inventory/assets, or engage in cross-border transactions. The method of document handover is also critical: scanned documents in a unified software system mean lower costs than handing over a physical binder once a quarter.

Hidden costs to look out for
Additional charges most commonly arise for annual financial statements, tax returns, accounting reconstruction, consultations beyond the retainer scope, and documents submitted after the deadline. Ask in advance what is included in the retainer, the hourly consultation rate, and the per-item cost for over-limit documents. A solid contract specifies both the per-document price and a cap.
When an in-house accountant makes sense
An in-house accountant becomes economically viable when dealing with hundreds of documents per month or where daily operational reporting is needed. The cost of an internal accountant is not just their salary, but an additional 33.8% in mandatory employer social and health contributions, software licences, training, and cover during absences.
What to do now
- 1Calculate your average monthly document volume over the last six months.
- 2Enter the figures into the calculator and compare modes of collaboration.
- 3Request a quote that explicitly specifies the cost of year-end closing and tax returns.
When to call an accountant
If you are switching from another accountant, setting up inventory/stock management, or hiring your first employees — these situations change the scope of work significantly.
Frequently asked questions
- Is pricing per document or a flat monthly retainer?
- Most often it is a monthly retainer covering a document limit, with surcharges for over-limit documents. For stable businesses, a retainer is much more predictable.
- How much does the year-end closing cost?
- For sole traders (OSVČ) typically 1,900 CZK, for an s.r.o. 4,900 CZK. Always check whether it is included in your monthly retainer.
- Is a cheaper accountant worth it?
- Only if they offer the exact same scope and quality. Additional tax assessments and penalties for incorrectly submitted filings usually far exceed any annual savings.
